SALT – A Unique Character!

My father recently got this membership to the Hypertension Club (High BP). Ever since we discuss a lot about SALT. From being the centrepiece on the dining table it has become the only piece of conversation at the dining table. The last time I took salt this serious was in the Chemistry lab, then occasionally when it is missed in the food. Indeed we all have a strange relationship with salt, it’s presence seldom noticed and absence is emphatic!

Even though it gets the least attention, it has always been the faithful mineral which seasons the mood and enhances the flavours of life. 😉

But seriously, there is much more to this rock! It is astonishing that we have a brilliant comparison from the Creator Himself – His masterpiece with the Salt!

In Mathew 5: 13, Jesus says, “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its savour, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.”

In this verse, He summed up about the essence of the human being ” The soul” and the purpose, also the ultimatum if this essence is lost!

About the soul, He said the same in Mathew 16: 26 – What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?

The human beings are created in the image and likeness of God and if we lose His likeness we shall be the tasteless salt, which is of no use except to be thrown out and trampled.

This is why seeing one’s self through God’s grand design is essential. The day that each person willingly accepts himself or herself for who he or she is and acknowledges the uniqueness of God’s framing process marks the beginning of a journey to seeing the handiwork of God in each life.

C.S Lewis, in his brilliant way, reminds us of this:

Most of the man’s psychological make-up is probably due to his body: when his body dies all that will fall off him, and the real central man, the thing that chose, that made the best or the worst out of this material will stand naked. All sorts of nice things which we thought our own, but which were really due to good digestion, will fall off some of us: all sorts of nasty things which were due to complexes or bad health will fall off others.
We shall then, for the first time, see every one as he really was. There will be surprises.!

May God Almighty Bless You All!
